The following comments were posted: Call came in from a toll-free number (first clue of a scam), I answered it, then there was the typical pause and "click" noise activating the telemarketers headset and he blurted out, "Hey Grandma!" First of all I am a grandpa and not a grandma so I knew that this was a bogus call. I told the caller he had a wrong number and he hung up. Further internet investigation revealed that this is a phishing scam where the caller attempts to contact older people to get them to send him money by pretending to be their grandson. The one time I answered it, someone claimed to be from the police department asking for donations, and was very pushy and rude when I refused. It comes up on my caller ID as IL. CCPA. Which stands for Combined Community Police Association...NOT Global Crossing Local Services Inc- IL. I first could not block this number as it was an "invalid number". Called my phone company and am now able to block them. However, when calling the number today before I blocked them, a recording now states this number is "unavailable." This just adds to my suspicion that it isnt a legit police station asking for donations. Other reverse lookup pages posts similar experiences.
